AYO from www.73lab.com allowed us to use his images and even prepared some wallpapers for us. The penguin we use as logo is originally from ayo. We tuned him into blue :) as we like it more this way.

Coding

Most of the work was done by David Pravec, but Michal Heppler also helped a lot.  Daniel Favara (developer of ddslive.org) helped by good advices and code examples. We have used and some code created originally for KNOPPIX by Klaus Knopper and Fabian Franz.

Inspiration, philosophy

There is no question who is the man who started this movement, and that is Richard Stallman (RMS). He wrote the GPL license and started FreeSoftware moment. Now he is working on GPL3 and stopping the DRM.

Please note that Free sofware movement is about freedom, not about zero costs. Lowering price of software is only side effect. Developers of software using GPL are forced to give customers source code, when they ask for it, so (paying) customer have freedom of choice and is safe from monopoly abuse. That is main reason of success of this FreeSoftware moment. It gives freedom from monopoly abuse, not only free usage.

After meeting RMS who criticized some non-free components inside (czech fonts), RMS was promised DANIX will contain FreeSoftware only, to create foster creating free alternatives where they are still missing and to make possible to even try DANIX for him. He was right. Now we have some good czech fonts which are free (as in freedom).
